Ripple is the company that develops software solutions for the financial industry, such as RippleNet, which utilizes the XRP Ledger and the XRP token to facilitate global liquidity. The XRP Ledger itself is decentralized and maintained by a global community of participants, meaning it functions independently of the Ripple company. Beyond its use as a payment bridge, the XRP Ledger supports various other applications, including decentralized finance, the issuance of custom tokens, and smart contracts.
