Toshi (TOSHI) is a community-driven memecoin project operating on the Base blockchain, which is an Ethereum Layer-2 solution. It launched in July 2023. The project's name is inspired by Coinbase co-founder Brian Armstrong's cat, also named Toshi, and is a tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. Toshi aims to be the face and mascot of Base, playing a leading role within the burgeoning Base ecosystem. It was developed to foster a vibrant community and build utility and infrastructure within the Base blockchain ecosystem. Toshi is considered the largest community-driven project on the Base chain. Key features of the Toshi project include the MEOW DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization), which empowers token holders to participate in governance decisions, with each token representing one vote. The original collection consisted of 3,000 unique NFTs inspired by Toshi the Cat, launched in August 2023. A subsequent collection, NFToshis 2.0, was designed to offer a more engaging experience with 5,000 unique NFTs. Additionally, Toshi offers various decentralized finance (DeFi) tools and platforms. These include Toshi Mart, described as a one-click social launch and trading platform and a premier memecoin launchpad on Base. Toshi Tools provides utilities such as token lockers, liquidity lockers, and a multisender for transactions. This aims to address limitations of typical meme coins by offering tangible tools for project launches and token management. Toshi leverages the Base blockchain for enhanced scalability, reduced transaction costs, and efficient operations, benefiting from its high performance, low cost, and strong compatibility.
